Prodibio overdose

A bunch of stuff has been severely bleaching since a couple weeks ago and I wasn't sure why, then realized last night that I dosed my tank two days in a row by mistake.

The plan is to do a big water change tonight and skip the dosing this week, but would like to hear what people have to say about it. Should I do a big 50%, or is 30% enough for the water change?

EMERGENCY!!!

So I'm doing a water change and take the water out and then go to my new mixed batch. The batch has dust dry wall and dirt in the water from guys who came and did the carpet. This was a surprise my wife failed to mention to me. I had a lid on the bucket, but it still managed to get in the water. I did not want to risk using this water, so I dumped it. I am now making a new batch and in the mean time I am just using my powerheads and heater till I have enough water in the tank to run the whole system. What I really want to know is how long does it take to mix salt water. I am using reef cyrstals. If anybody has any salt water I could use now I would greatly appreciate it. I can't beleive I'm in this situation. My number is 703-250-4448. I'm either at the pet store in the morning or I'm using some very fresh salt water I just made.

Can too much Calcium be a problem?

Well I guess it helps if you read the directions on the test kits. I missed the part where it says (the bottom of the black plunger should be even with the 1.00 ML mark)

I used to pull it further down. Anyway, since I realized my mistake and re-tested, my Calcium is now at 600 and my ALK is still only 6.4 (good thing I did not overdose on the ALK)

I realize that I am not going to be dosing the calcium part of my 2-part and only the ALK to bring that up a little bit, I just wanted to make sure if there could be any issues with the Calcium being up at 600. I know that it will get used up by the corals in time, I just wanted to make sure that I don't need to do a large water change to try to bring that level down

PAR Readings from single CREE LED

Does anyone have the PAR readings of a single CREE LED? I've seen the plots from full setups and I can divide the output by the number of LEDs, but doing it that way doesn't account for the amount of overlap provided by different spacings. Even more helpful would be a reading with optics.

I'm trying to make a guess at some numbers for a setup like the attached pic.

submersed pump vs plumbed pump, heat transfer?

ive always been a big proponet of running return pumps externally becuase i like the look, the ease of service, and most importantly the theroetical heat transfer thats avoided by running external. it does how ever mean have to worry about a possible leak, doing creative plumbing, and of course extra cost of drilling and related plumbing... i digress my system is going to be a 54 display with a 20 gallon sump that will likely have around 12 gallons of water at any given point. i could run the pump externally but its going to cost around an extra $25 and a lot of creative plumbing as well as space which is at a premium under the stand.

roughly how much extra heat am i looking at if i run the pump in sump vs out?

Micro Bubbles

Morning,

I did a ~30g water change last night. I changed the filter sock. Cleaned the skimmer cup (ASM-G3). And replaced the foam filter on the skimmer. When I fired everything back up things looked normal. About three hours later I come back in to find the skimmer area of the sump cloudy. I freak out and ran to the tank. The lights were off but best I could tell everything was fine. I go back to the sump and realize they are micro bubbles...a LOT of micro bubbles. I went to bed hoping it would resolve itself by morning. This AM the bubbles are still there. Looks like the baffles are keeping them mostly in the sump.

The skimmer if producing bubbles, obviously, but not producing any foam. I pulled the pump to check for obstructions and give a quick clean. Air tube is clear, nothing impeding the operation of the needle wheel.

Any thoughts on what's causing this? This hasn't happened in the past. It may take an hour or so to produce foam but never this long.

Thanks for looking.

Dilemma- do I stay skimmerless?

My all natural filtration isn't working as planned. I do have good SPS growth, but I can't help but wonder if I could have better growth. My custom sump wasn't able to support the DSB as planned so I used rubble instead. There's plenty of sponges and pods in this area, but I really can't get any macro to grow anymore. I put 3# of Dragons Breath in and it rotted away in a month. The chaeto hasn't died, but it certainly isn't growing. I am using GFO, carbon, and polycaprolactone pellets but my nitrates won't go below 20ppm. I don't have any nuisance algae or cyano problems either. I've recently acquired a custom cone skimmer and have been thinking that I should go this route, but I've barked so much about skimmerless that I'm worried that I'll sound like a hypocrite.
What to do....
