Experience in hobby

How long have you been doing this?

I was 14 when I got into the hobby for 2 years.

Who got you into the hobby?

A construction worker doing some work on our house mentioned he owned a saltwater tank and said it wasn't too hard to care for. I was hooked right away.

Who in the hobby most influences you?

HowardofNova and pretty much all the WAMAS members are the big influences.

Tank setup and equipment

The display tank is a 90g reef ready 48x18x24. The sump is a 20g tank with an Ocean Runner 2500 return and a GSA shorty skimmer. Koralia power heads are used in the display tank for water movement.

What is your maintenance schedule like?

5-10g water changes each week clean glass and power heads as needed.

What brand salt do you use??

I use Kent Marine.

What do you feed your fish and or corals?

I feed Ocean Nutrition and Two Little Fishes "Sea Veggies".

How do you maintain calcium/alkalinity?

I use 2 part, Kent Essential Elements, and carbon that I change each month.

What type of lighting do you have and what schedule do you have them on?

I use a Tek T5 6 bulb light fixture
2 aqua blue, 2 pro colors, and 2 blue plus.

Where do you keep your water parameters?

NO4 10-20ppm. I don't test anything else at this point.

Do you have any tricks or methods to keep your water parameters where you have them?

No tricks, my tank is pretty easy to care for.

What kind of water flow do you have? How do you accomplish it?

I use an Ocean Runner 2500 return pump and a couple Koralia power heads.

What are your future plans for improvement/upgrade of the tank?

I don't have any plans to upgrade or change much to the system right now.

What makes your setup special or unique?

The simplicity and open rockwork.

If you had to start from scratch, would you do anything different?

I keep up better with maintenance and just make my system much easier to maintain.

Personal

What are your other hobbies?

I play the piano, violin, do art and TREBUCHET

What kind of music are you into right now?

Mostly what I play on the piano, which is 19th-20th century Russian music, but I like a variety of other music as well.

Who would you most like to meet past present or future?

I'd like to meet Stonewall Jackson. I respect his personal life and goals greatly.

If you could go one place on earth where would it be?

Australia, because of the reefs and other wildlife there.

Why did you choose the screen name you did?

I used to be an N gauge model train hobbyest.

What is the last book you read?

Mythology by Edith Hamilton

Do you have any advice for those folks whom are new to the hobby.

keep up with the maintenance and do your research ahead of time, it saves a lot of frustration later.
